Join the movement

Advance Carbon Removal Coalition (ACR) is a multi-stakeholder coalition focused on developing the demand side of Canada’s carbon removal ecosystem. Our target is to mobilize $100 million in new funding by 2030 to support Canadian CDR projects.

Who we are

By uniting climate-forward companies, investors, financial institutions, and organizations, ACR creates the collective voice needed to send credible market signals, stimulate innovation, attract new investment, and strengthen alignment between project developers, market leaders, and policymakers.

Together, we amplify Canadian climate leadership and accelerate the scale-up of durable carbon removal.

Advance Carbon Removal is an initiative of Carbon Removal Canada.

How it works

Insight

ACR brings members into a shared space for collective intelligence and thought leadership. Together, we surface insights, identify best practices, and build credibility for carbon removal in Canada.

Network

ACR provides the platform for members to engage with one another. This interface allows members to coordinate, align their efforts, and present a unified signal that strengthens Canada’s demand-side leadership.

Amplify

The coalition elevates each member’s leadership through communications, branding, and public positioning, ensuring participation in ACR is visible and valued by peers, customers, investors, and policymakers.

Impact

ACR turns individual action into collective influence. By joining forces, members don’t just reduce risk – they amplify their impact. The coalition strengthens credibility by making each member’s leadership part of a larger, more powerful story.

Why Canada

Canada has the resources, expertise, and credibility to become a global leader in carbon removal — but demand must be mobilized to unlock that potential.

Today, Canada’s carbon removal market faces challenges attracting the investment needed to develop and scale new projects. Without a strong domestic demand signal, Canadian innovators risk being left behind in a global race that is already accelerating.

Advance Carbon Removal addresses this gap. By uniting Canadian companies, investors, and public partners around a shared goal of mobilizing $100M by 2030, the coalition creates market confidence, accelerates private investment, and positions Canadian projects to compete on the world stage.

FAQs

  • ACR is guided by a steering committee made up of founding members and Carbon Removal Canada. The steering committee helps set priorities, oversee coalition activities, and ensure the initiative remains aligned with its mission.

  • Interested members engage with ACR coordinators and Carbon Removal Canada to sign a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding that details the actions that will be taken in support of the coalition.

Membership is non-binding and focused on intentions, not contractual commitments. Members endorse and support a collective demand signal target of $100M by 2030, share lessons with peers, and participate in a trusted platform that strengthens credibility and accelerates carbon removal in Canada.

Apart from sponsoring a share of the budget determined by the steering committee, there are no minimum binding requirements. ACR will provide guidelines and recommended project criteria, but members are free to determine the nature and scale of their contributions. Members are encouraged to highlight existing or future purchase intentions, investments, or climate initiatives to strengthen the collective market signal.

  • Funding is mobilized through the financial actions of members — including purchases, investments, and other forms of support for Canadian carbon removal projects. Any contribution that involves financial risk to back Canadian CDR may be counted toward the $100M target, subject to steering committee review.

ACR will not be purchasing carbon removal credits or acting as a procurement vehicle as part of its initial scope. Instead, it will aggregate the individual actions of its members to send a strong collective demand signal to the market.

  • Founding Members may participate in the steering committee, provide input into coalition priorities, and help establish the working budget and scope of work for coalition activities. They also receive greater prominence in communications and are highlighted for their leadership in establishing the coalition.

Members are expected to connect with peers and contribute to joint activities such as working groups, webinars, industry events, and shared research, where possible.
